History

Giresun University School of Health Services was established on July 30, 2008. The Department of Medical Services and Techniques was established on April 13, 2011, with its programs including Medical Laboratory Techniques, Optometry, Dialysis, Anesthesia, Medical Documentation and Secretariat. On July 26, 2012, the Department of Child Care and Youth Services and its Child Development program, as well as the Department of Health Care Services and its Geriatric Care program were established. The Department of Therapy and Rehabilitation and its Physiotherapy program were established on August 14, 2012. The Second Education programs were established on different dates: Optometry Second Education on April 18, 2013, Perfusion Techniques on October 2, 2014, Dialysis and Physiotherapy Second Education on May 17, 2018, and Child Development Second Education on May 9, 2019. Finally, the Department of Dental Services and its Dental Prosthesis Technology program were established on May 31, 2022.

The School began its educational activities on October 17, 2011, in its building at the Nizamiye Campus, admitting its first students to the Medical Laboratory Techniques program through additional placement in the 2011-2012 academic year.

In the 2013-2014 academic year, both First and Second Education programs in Optometry began, followed by First and Second Education programs in First and Emergency Aid in the 2014-2015 academic year, and the Anesthesia program in the 2016-2017 academic year.

The 2018-2019 academic year marked a period of significant developments for our school. During this period, Medical Documentation and Secretariat, Dialysis (First and Second Education), Perfusion Techniques programs under the Department of Medical Services and Techniques, Physiotherapy (First and Second Education) program under the Department of Therapy and Rehabilitation, and Child Development (First Education) program under the Department of Child Care and Youth Services began their educational activities. In the 2019-2020 academic year, the Child Development Second Education program began its educational activities.

Our school, which initially conducted its educational activities at the Nizamiye Campus, was later relocated to the Çamlık Campus in Güre District. The current building houses 3 amphitheaters, 2 classrooms, 6 laboratories, 1 director's office, 4 administrative staff offices, 14 academic staff offices, and 1 cafeteria.

As of the 2023-2024 academic year, first-year students of Dialysis and Physiotherapy programs, who previously studied at Bulancak Kadir Karabaş School of Applied Sciences, started receiving education in our own building. Due to the increasing number of programs and students, classrooms in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences are also being utilized for some courses.

Currently, our school continues its educational activities with 5 departments: Department of Medical Services and Techniques, Department of Therapy and Rehabilitation, Department of Child Care and Youth Services, Department of Health Care Services, and Department of Dental Services, comprising a total of 13 programs. The Perfusion Techniques Program was closed as of 2020.
