A New Step in Education with VR at Our School of Health Services

A remarkable application focused on placing technology at the centre of health education was carried out at our school. Virtual reality (VR) technology was utilised in this study, giving students the opportunity to experience critical situations they may encounter in the field of health through realistic scenarios. Thanks to this work, which adds a new dimension to the understanding of applied education, scene assessment, patient approach and emergency intervention processes were simulated in a virtual environment, contributing to the development of students' professional competencies.

The application was realised through the individual effort and dedication of Lecturer Figen Çiçek of the First and Emergency Aid Programme and Lecturer Rıdvan Cebeci of the Tele-Health Technician Programme, with the aim of improving students' practical training opportunities. In the simulation environments created using virtual reality equipment procured by the academics with their own means, students had the opportunity to experience professional skills such as correct decision-making in emergencies, rapid assessment and team coordination.

The virtual reality equipment used in the application was employed together with the existing training materials at our school, thereby bringing a new dynamism to applied health education. Through this approach, students moved beyond classical teaching methods and engaged with a more interactive and experience-based learning environment.

It is aimed to further develop the VR applications carried out with new emergency scenarios and to enrich them with more advanced simulations in the coming period. In this regard, it is planned to further strengthen the technology-supported practice environments in which our students will be able to experience a variety of health scenarios.
