Within the scope of social responsibility activities, a visit was paid to the Giresun Nursing Home Elderly Care and Rehabilitation Center by the Physiotherapy Community operating under the Vocational School of Health Services and the Dentupp Academic Development Community operating under the Faculty of Dentistry.
The event was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ülkü Kezban ŞAHİN from the Vocational School of Health Services, Physiotherapy Programme, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Nurşen ŞAHİN from the Faculty of Dentistry. During the visit, nursing home residents were informed about oral and dental health, and screenings were conducted. Additionally, elderly individuals were evaluated in terms of geriatric syndromes by the students of the Vocational School of Health Services.
The importance of protecting oral health, supporting functional independence, and monitoring fall risk, physical function, nutritional status, and overall quality of life in elderly individuals was emphasized. Through the active participation of students from both the Vocational School of Health Services and the Faculty of Dentistry, the participants gained social responsibility awareness and had the opportunity to enhance their professional awareness by interacting directly with the elderly.
The visit aimed to raise awareness among nursing home residents regarding oral health and geriatric syndromes, support their access to preventive health services, and strengthen university-society cooperation.
