Giresun University Vocational School of Health Services Students Took Part in the 9th Giresun Half Marathon

The "Runkerasus Giresun Half Marathon", organized for the 9th time this year by the Giresun Marathon Sports Club, was run on Sunday, May 17, 2026, in the 21K and 10K categories. In the organization, which was inspired by the Amazon myth and brought thousands of male and female athletes together on the streets of Giresun, students from the First and Emergency Aid and Physiotherapy programmes of Giresun University Vocational School of Health Services took part in the field and provided health counselling services.

Under the coordination of the programme advisor Lecturer Figen ÇİÇEK, the First and Emergency Aid programme students were positioned along the track and at the finish line, providing first response support against emergencies such as fainting, dehydration, and injuries that the athletes might experience. On the other hand, the Physiotherapy programme students, accompanied by the programme advisor Lecturer Rıdvan TÜRKERİ, guided the athletes on warm-up and stretching exercises before the run. After the race, they supported the relaxation of muscles and accelerated the recovery process by applying sports massage to the participants who applied with complaints of muscle fatigue, cramps, and injuries.

Lecturer Figen Çiçek and Lecturer Rıdvan Türkeri emphasized that the event was an invaluable experience for the students in terms of transforming theoretical knowledge into field practice. It was stated that the field work made a significant contribution to the development of professional competences such as in-team communication, rapid decision-making, and patient management. Following the successful completion of the organization, Giresun Marathon Sports Club expressed its gratitude to the advisors who served in the medical team, the students, and the management of Giresun University Vocational School of Health Services.
